I feel the same way about this issue. How many times do our own people go on mediums and attack us by saying its our fault all the time? Why not attack both sides and if you are even going to think about attacking black people in the media show your reciepts of what you have been doing for the black community. Have you been on the streets talking to the youth? Are spending time with your community. Idk these rappers & entertainers are turning into pawns and im sick of it. Rather them not say a damn thing. But when we don’t have respect for ourselves, how do we expect them to respect us? It starts from within. Don’t start with just a rally, don’t start from looting — it starts from within.”

Black people, PLEASE—we really need to let go of this “respect ourselves before they respect us” argument. It’s loaded with respectability politics and reeks of internalized racism.
